Day by Day Itinerary

Included meals are indicated in parentheses: (B,L,D)

Day 1       Arrive to Buenos Aires

Upon arrival you will be met by a local representative for transfer to your hotel in the Palermo district, a great base from which to explore the city.  Your hotel is a first class small boutique hotel, centrally located.
Magnolia Boutique Hotel (many hotel options available in Buenos Aires; one recommended upgrade is Legado Mitico)

Day 2       Buenos Aires

Today you have a privately guided tour of Buenos Aires, visiting the historical monuments and getting the lay of the land in this sprawling, fascinating city. Areas visited include Palermo, the Recoleta, the Plaza de Mayo, the Teatro Colon, San Telmo, and La Boca.  You will have the end of the day free to explore on your own and eat out at one of the city’s excellent restaurants.
Magnolia Boutique Hotel (B)

Day 3       Free Day in Buenos Aires

Today you have a free day in Buenos Aires to explore some more of the city on your own.  We can also arrange day excursions to nearby sites, such as the town of Colonia, Uruguay (a well preserved 17th century Portuguese colonial town that is a UNESCO World Heritage site), or up to Tigre and the Delta (there are also biking excursions up to Tigre).  Another option you might consider is an excursion (day or overnight) to one of the “estancias” in the area of San Antonio de Areco, about 1.5 hours from Buenos Aires.  This is an area that has preserved gaucho traditions more than any other in Argentina and the estancias provide a more in depth experience in this area of Argentine culture and history.
Magnolia Boutique Hotel (B)

Day 4       Punta Tombo Penguin Colony

In the morning you will transfer to the airport and fly south to Trelew.   Upon arrival you will be met by your local driver and guide who will take you to Punta Tombo, the largest Magellanic Penguin colony in the world. As you walk around Punta Tombo you will be surrounded by penguins as they make their way from their nests to the ocean.  After your visit, you will drive north to Puerto Madryn where you will be dropped off at your hotel with excellent views of the Golfo Nuevo and migrating Southern Right Whales (seasonal June to December).
Hotel Territorio (B)

Day 5      Peninsula Valdes

In the morning you will travel to the Peninsula Valdes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its exceptional marine life and fauna.  From June through December you will be able to board a zodiac boat and head out to observe one of the largest concentrations of Southern Right Whales in the world, viewing these magnificent mammals up close as they glide under and around your boat (for example, see photo at right).  Dolphins, orcas (killer whales), sea lions and other wildlife can also be viewed during your excursion (seasonality of the different animals varies; please inquire at time of booking and we will let you know what you can expect to see for your dates).
Estancia Rincon Chico (B,D)

Day 6       Peninsula Valdes

Today you will have the day free to enjoy one of the many excursions from the estancia, including a hiking excursion to a nearby Elephant Seal colony.  A wide variety of other wildlife also makes its home on the Peninsula Valdes and can be observed during your excursions, including guanacos, Patagonian hares, and rhea (ostrich-like birds).
Estancia Rincon Chico (B,L,D)

Day 7       Fly to El Calafate

You will be picked up in the morning and transferred to the Trelew airport for your flight to El Calafate.  En route to the airport you will have chance to stop at a traditional Welsh tea house before boarding your plane (the Welsh have a long history in the area and have left their mark on the area’s architecture).  Upon arrival in El Calafate you will be met for transfer to your comfortable estancia, located along the edge of a less visited and spectacular area of Los Glaciares National Park.
Estancia Nibepo Aike (B,D)

Day 8       Perito Moreno Glacier

In the morning you will be picked up for your excursion to the Perito Moreno Glacier.  Rather than just view the glacier from a distance, you’ll have a “mini-trek” on the glacier itself; crampons will be provided (this is a non technical and non-strenuous walking excursion on the glacier).   Afterwards you will visit the traditional viewing spots before returning back to your estancia for a traditional Patagonian asado dinner.  (More strenuous and extensive hiking options are also available on the Perito Moreno glacier; please inquire if interested.)
Estancia Nibepo Aike (B,L,D)

Day 9       Free day on the Estancia

Free day at the Estancia.   This is a great area for hiking and horseback riding, with trails offering views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers, as well as the Southern Patagonia Ice Cap.  The staff at the estancia will help you find the best trails to hike or horseback, according to your interests.  If you want to take another full day excursion, we can arrange a boat trip out to Estancia Cristina, which sits alongside the massive Upsala Glacier.
Estancia Nibepo Aike (B,L,D)

Day 10       Argentina / Home

Today you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Buenos Aires, where you will connect with your international flight home. (B)
