Estancia El Ombú

El Ombú de Areco is a historical estancia (ranch) located in San Antonio de Areco, just over an hour's drive from Buenos Aires. San Antonio de Areco is often called the birthplace of the gaucho tradition, and this 9-bedroom estancia, located in a restored colonial mansion, combines details of this history with modern comforts and conveniences. The estancia offers a pool, common room, a game room with billiards and table tennis, and a dining room serving traditional and international food and wines.

Visits include at least one asado, the typical Argentinean barbeque, serving beef raised free-range on the estancia. The house sits on a 10-acre park surrounded by ranch land, where guests can explore on foot or horseback, observe the diverse plant life and natural lagoons, bird-watch, or participate in the working ranch’s stock-rearing activities, such as milking, driving cattle to harness, vaccination, ear-tagging, and branding. The estancia also arranges excursions to nearby museums and artisans, including silversmiths, leathercraft and wood workshops, a small local chocolate factory, and country auctions.
