Bartolomé Island is an extinct volcano and many geological features such as craters, cinder cones, lave flows, spatter cones, and broken lava tunnels can be found. After landing in a small bay, opposite Pinnacle Rock, visitors climb an 1800-foot trail to the 600-foot summit of the island. Much of the trail is a wooden staircase, built to prevent erosion.
