Day 1:

Welcome to Africa!

Welcome to Johannesburg! South Africa’s economic hub, this city bursts at the seams with a wealth of art, history and culture and is a great place to add some time to explore. You will be escorted through the airport to meet your waiting driver who will take you onward to your boutique hotel for the evening set in the lush, upmarket suburbs of town.

Accommodations: The Peech Hotel

Set within two acres in Johannesburg’s residential suburb of Melrose, The Peech is a boutique hotel with 32 well-appointed guest rooms spread around the property’s verdant gardens. The location feels both private and central, located near the city's main shopping hubs and adjacent to the boutiques, cafés and parks of Melrose. The hotel offers two swimming pools, comfortable outdoor seating areas, and a bistro featuring locally sourced, sustainable and organic ingredients.

Day 2:

Fly to Victoria Falls

After breakfast at your hotel you are transferred back to the airport to catch your flight to Victoria Falls. On arrival you will be met by your private driver, and taken up river to a secluded lodge on the banks of the Zambezi, allowing you to explore the best of this region.

Here you will get your first taste of safari along the banks of the river in Zambezi National Park, visit the mighty Victoria Falls, cruise the river at sunset with a drink in hand, or canoe through the shallows looking for birds and wildlife with an expert local guide. Upstream from the iconic Victoria Falls in the Zambezi National Park lies a pristine piece of land on the banks of the Zambezi River. The untouched natural beauty of the park is sprawled over 56 000 breathtaking hectares. The activities offered at Old Drift Lodge emphasise the rich natural environment, focusing on the abundance of wildlife that roam through the Park and swim the Zambezi River.

The main lodge area has 360-degree views, north facing onto the Zambezi & south facing onto a water hole. Only 4.5 kilometres from the town of Victoria Falls, Old Drift Lodge is the closest lodge within the National Park to Victoria Falls. Day 3:

A day in Victoria Falls

Today you will experience the humbling sights, sounds, and spray of one of natures supreme masterpieces. No photograph can begin to depict the reality and nothing prepares you for your first sight of Victoria Falls. You will be accompanied through the rainforest by a private guide, who will give you the history of the Falls the dramatic gorges and the surrounding flora and fauna. Raincoats and camera protective gear are always provided when needed as you head into the mist.

This afternoon you have time at leisure to enjoy your lodge; Indulge in a spa treatment or watch the river flow by from your private plunge pool, or outdoor bathtub.

Day 4:

Another day in Victoria Falls

Today the world is your oyster as you have the choice of several activities on offer at your lodge or we are happy to arrange something a little more adventurous such as rafting, helicopter or microlight flights at your request.

Included in your stay you will have the freedom to choose how you spend your time. Encapsulating the essence of Africa, a cruise down the glorious Zambezi River at sunset is a must do and offers wonderful wildlife sightings in an incredible setting. Game drives in neighboring Zambezi National Park will be your first taste of the safari to come, or enjoy lunch at the Lookout Café perched high above the rapids of Batoka Gorge.

Day 5:

Travel to Hwange National Park

This morning you will take a short flight from Victoria Falls to Hwange National Park. Declared a national park in 1929, today, Hwange is Zimbabwe’s largest game reserve. Vast stretches of wilderness, extend from horizon to horizon and form part of the ancient migration route towards Northern Botswana for many animals.

This diverse landscape of forests, semi-desert scrubland and granite hills is inhabited by a wide variety of mammals and birds. Although a year round destination, Hwange is particularly alive during the winter months (April to October) when large concentrations of animals flock to an intricate network of pumped waterholes which sustain life when natural resources are unavailable and is a remarkable story in conservation. Massive herds of elephant make their presence felt during the dry period. Buffalo, zebra, sable and roan antelope, as well as lion, leopard, cheetah and wild dog are also widely seen.

Located in Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park, Somalisa is an intimate bush camp perfect for a relaxing Hwange safari. The camp houses 7 tented suites tucked into the shade of an Acacia grove, along the edge of an ancient seasonal floodplain. Each tent offers a fireplace, spacious copper bathtub, and private viewing deck, and the camp’s main deck and pool area overlooks a waterhole frequented by the local elephant families. Game drives, night drives, and walking safaris are guided by passionate local guides.

Day 6:

Safari in Hwange National Park

You are up at dawn to explore the park in some of the most active safari hours. After tea or coffee delivered to your suite you hop aboard the open safari vehicle and venture out to see what wildlife awaits as the sun rises.

You can spend the early afternoon at leisure in your safari lodge. Take a dip in the pool, or watch out for the elephants that often come for a drink. Embrace the relaxation that comes with being on safari in Africa.

Day 7:

Another day in Hwange

Today you may choose to forgo one of your game drives in favor of a walking safari. Only conducted by the highest trained guides and accompanied at all times by an armed spotter, encountering African wildlife in its natural habitat while of foot is an unforgettable experience.

Listen as guides explain how they track, piecing together the small clues left behind by large mammals. Gain an appreciation for the more hidden aspects of the bush and learn about the complex symbiotic relationships of the ecosystem.

Game drive as the sun sets, checking out new waterholes, snapping photos and taking in the sights and sounds of the bush.

Day 8:

Fly to Mana Pools

This morning you depart Hwange and take a safari flight north to Mana Pools National Park. As you land at the air strip you are transferred to your luxury lodge to begin this final phase of the adventure.

This superb safari location has held UNESCO World heritage status since 1984 and is one of the finest wilderness destinations in Africa. Set against a dramatic hilly back drop, the Zambezi carves its way through the valley and supports an incredible diversity of African wildlife.

Nyamatusi Camp is situated on the banks of the renowned Zambezi River and is a representation of the surrounding environment. The camp is reminiscent of days gone by and is inspired by nature. Nyamatusi comprises of 6 spacious and well-appointed tents, each with its own private deck and plunge pool, offering remote views overlooking the Zambezi.

Day 9:

Safari in Mana Pools

Throughout your stay here you will have the option to partake in twice daily game drives with an expert naturalist guide, set out on foot to experience some of the more remote areas of the park and view wildlife eye to eye with a highly trained walking guide or silently approach animals on the banks of the Zambezi as you drift on the river in a canoe.

This variety of activities and unique ways to view the parks inhabitants means your safari experience will always be tailored just to you.

Day 10:

A final day in Mana Pools

Lead by your experienced guide, you head out in the early morning hours one final time, in search of magnificent wildlife indigenous to the area. The park is famous for its huge elephant herds who come down to drink at the waters edge and frequent sightings of lion and leopard as well as being one of the best places in Africa to find endangered wild dogs.

Relax at your lodge, lounge in the pool with a drink in hand as you gaze out across the river and spot animals as they go about their day.

Day 11:

Farewell to Africa

After your last safari drive and a sumptuous breakfast in camp it is time to bid farewell to the bush. You will be transferred back to the airstrip to catch your flight to Harare and connect with your international flight home or onward to your next destination.
