Singular Patagonia

A former cold-storage plant houses this 57-room heritage hotel, located near Puerto Natales.  Since Chile has strict conservation rules, the hotel architect left the original external brickwork intact, and installed a funicular to take guests down from the hotel entrance  to the reception area.  The hotel bar, carved from a cavernous chamber, is known for its octopus and king crab specialties. Edwardian style rooms feature  mahogany writing desks, brass lamps and sepia prints.
