Located just 3 hours south of Santiago can be found one of the top wine producing valleys in Chile, the Colchagua Valley. A visit here is definitely worth the time, especially if you like red wine. The “capital” of this wine region is Santa Cruz where you will find many small boutique hotels to stay the night. Recommended hotels include Noi Blend, Casa Silva, Terra Viña, and Vik Vineyards amongst others. Feel free to call and discuss the many options available to be able to stay at one that most suits your needs. On a recent visit, I was able to stay a new small boutique hotel called Hotel Parronales, a five-bedroom hotel located on small vineyard. The small quaint hotel is family run with a husband and wife and their young child there to help at any moment.
Colchagua Valley – Montgras Vineyards
When staying in Colchagua, not only will you be able to enjoy the bountiful red varieties of wine, but this region includes many other activities from horseback riding to star gazing. Some hotels include a telescope for watching the night sky and horseback riding can be set up so that you can fully appreciate the vineyards as you ride through them finishing with a picnic and a tasting.
Vineyards in Colchagua include such names Viña Vik, Montgras, Lapostolle, Montes, and others. With so many to see and visit, you may want to spend an extra night here or combine this wine valley with the nearby Casablanca Valley (about 3 hours north) to check out some of Chile’s top white wine and pinot noir producing vineyards. Contact us for more information to help you determine which wine valley would best suit your needs.
