Roald Amundsen: A new hybrid-powered Nordic expedition vessel for polar cruising
The MS Roald Amundsen is a purpose-built hybrid-powered polar expedition vessel with battery packs that store electric power. This ship comes equipped with unique features that lessen its impact on the Arctic and Antarctic destinations it visits, including more efficient engines than most polar vessels, lower fuel usage, reduced CO2 emissions, and the ability to sail almost silently in these sensitive and wildlife-heavy destinations. Ship highlights include three restaurants, a science center with advanced microscopes, a sauna with a panoramic outside view, a wellness center, an outdoor infinity pool with two hot tubs, indoor and outdoor gyms with an on-deck running track, an explorer lounge and bar, indoor and outdoor observation decks, a lecture hall, and more.
