Sample Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Siem Reap

Welcome to Cambodia! Upon arrival at Siem Reap Airport, you’ll be met by an immigration official who will fast-track you through the arrivals process. Your private guide and driver will be waiting outside to transfer you to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours at leisure.

Accommodations: Zannier Phum Baitang, 4 nights

Set on 20 acres of rice paddies on the outskirts of Siem Reap, Zannier Phum Baitang is designed in the style of a traditional Khmer village, with 45 stilted villas: either pool villas with private plunge pools and outdoor salas, or terrace villas furnished with handpicked local antiques. The resort has two restaurants serving Cambodian and international cuisine, a sunset lounge bar, and a spa modeled on the architecture of Angkor Wat, offering traditional Khmer therapies including a water blessing by a Buddhist monk. The property has an open-air infinity pool and is a short drive from the Angkor Archaeological Park.

Day 2: Temples of Angkor Wat

Your exploration of the Angkor temples begins with a private guided visit to the Angkor National Museum, led by Mr. Seng Kompheak, a local archaeologist and former museum curator with over 17 years of experience at the site. The morning provides a thorough grounding in the history of the Angkorian Empire before you sit down to a Khmer set lunch in town, where Mr. Kompheak will give a short lecture contextualizing the afternoon ahead.

The first temple visit is Ta Prohm, where massive tree roots have grown through and around the stone ruins over centuries — Mr. Kompheak was personally involved in the conservation work here and brings a level of detail to the site that few guides can match. The day concludes at Angkor Wat at dusk, one of the most rewarding times to visit the complex.

Accommodations: Zannier Phum Baitang, 4 nights

*Includes: Breakfast, Lunch

Day 3: Rescue Elephants and Tonle Sap Lake

Your guide will collect you at 8:00 AM for the transfer to Kulen Elephant Forest, home to 14 retired elephants that spent decades giving rides at the Angkor temples. The forest operates as a genuine sanctuary — no riding, no performances — and the morning is spent walking with the elephants through the forest, observing them as they move and socialize on their own terms. A traditional lunch at the base camp is followed by the transfer back to Siem Reap.

In the afternoon, you will head to Tonle Sap Lake, Southeast Asia’s largest freshwater lake, for a private cruise aboard a restored traditional fishing vessel. You will drift through the floating villages where daily life plays out on the water, with handcrafted cocktails and canapés served as the fishermen bring in their evening catch and the light fades over the lake.

Accommodations: Zannier Phum Baitang, 4 nights

*Includes: Breakfast, Lunch

Day 4: Khmer Village Life and Optional Hot Air Balloon

Your guide will collect you in the morning for a drive into the countryside to Kna Por, a traditional Khmer village surrounded by rice fields. The visit is hands-on and unhurried — you will wander through the village, meet local families, and learn about the production of rice wine, woven mats, and traditional brooms. A remork (tuk-tuk) takes you out to the village outskirts to watch farmers and water buffalo working the fields before a refreshment stop with views over the surrounding countryside. The morning concludes with a visit to the ancient ruins of Banteay Ampil Temple before the drive back to Siem Reap.

For those wanting an aerial perspective, an optional 45-minute hot air balloon flight over the Angkor Archaeological Park offers sweeping views of the Rolous group temples and the wider complex, with Angkor Wat visible in the distance.

Accommodations: Zannier Phum Baitang, 4 nights

*Includes: Breakfast

Day 5: Travel to Phnom Penh

The Silver Pagoda or Wat Preah Keo, Wat Ubosoth Ratanaram or Preah Vihear Preah Keo Morakot is located on the south side of the Royal Palace, Phnom Penh.

After a final morning in Siem Reap, your guide and driver will transfer you to the airport for your short flight to Phnom Penh. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours at leisure.

Accommodations: Raffles Le Royal, 2 nights

A historic landmark reinterpreted in a bold contemporary style, Raffles Hotel Le Royal is a place where an elegant past lives on in the vibrant, trendy present - just like the city you will explore from this comfortable haven of calm. Step into a lush tropical oasis with facilities including magnificent gardens, a restful spa, and two swimming pools – as well as the intuitive, attentive service one expects from Raffles. Raffles is very much part of the history of Phnom Penh. It has stood for 90 years and its walls reflect many of the times it has witnessed, yet while it honors its past, the hotel embraces the city’s dynamic future, continuing to be a focal point of the capital’s business and social scene.

*Includes: Breakfast

Day 6: Phnom Penh: Cuisine and History

The morning begins on foot and by tuk-tuk with your local guide, starting at Phsar Kandal, one of Phnom Penh’s oldest markets, where you will sample traditional breakfast items including sticky rice cakes and Bay Sach Chrouk (grilled pork with rice). A short walk brings you to Phsar Chas for more local food and a browse through its stalls, before continuing to Wat Phnom, the hilltop temple that marks the founding of the city.

From there, the route moves through the old French Quarter, before concluding at Phsar Thmey, the city’s iconic yellow-domed central market, once the centerpiece of a city known as the Pearl of Asia.

The afternoon turns to a more difficult chapter of Phnom Penh’s history. You will visit Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, a former school that served as a Khmer Rouge security prison, followed by a drive 10 miles out of the city to the Choeung Ek Killing Fields memorial. Both sites are among the best-preserved in the country and are essential to understanding the full weight of Cambodia’s recent past. Though sobering, the visits provide crucial context for the resilience and energy of the city you have been exploring throughout the day.

Accommodations: Raffles Le Royal, 2 nights

*Includes: Breakfast, Lunch

Day 7: Travel to Song Saa Island

This morning your guide and driver will transfer you by private vehicle to Sihanoukville, a journey of around three to three and a half hours via the expressway. On arrival at the pier, you will board a speedboat to Song Saa Island, a private island reserve in the Koh Rong Archipelago. The rest of the day is yours at leisure.

Accommodations: Song Saa Private Island, 3 nights

Song Saa Private Island is a resort set on Cambodia's Koh Rong Archipelago, spanning two small islands known locally as The Sweethearts in the Gulf of Thailand. All 24 villas have infinity pools and open-air showers, ranging from jungle villas along the shoreline to overwater villas on stilts. The resort has two restaurants and a beach bar, and wellness facilities include an extensive spa, a jungle gym, and an herbarium with programs drawing on Buddhist principles. Other facilities include an infinity swimming pool, private beach access, and ample lounge areas to enjoy the views. The Song Saa Foundation, which supports local communities and the surrounding marine environment, predates the resort itself.

*Includes: Breakfast, Dinner

Days 8-9: Song Saa Island: Sea, Rainforest, and Culture

Take advantage of two full days to explore Song Saa island at your own pace. Choose from a range of offered activities, including snorkeling, scuba diving in the coral-fringed Koh Rong Archipelago, kayaking through the mangrove forests of the marine national park, and an after-dark boat trip to see bioluminescent plankton.

On land, you can opt for a guided rainforest tour, forest foraging walks, or a dawn birding excursion on neighboring Koh Bong. There’s also a range of spa treatments and private wellness sessions in the island’s open-air salas. Those interested in the resort’s foundation’s conservation work can join a supply run to remote communities in the archipelago or visit the nearby village of Prek Svay.

Accommodations: Song Saa Private Island, 3 nights

*Includes: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 10: Departure

Say goodbye to Song Saa island and transfer back to the mainland, where you will be driven 3-4 hours to Techo International Airport to catch your departing flight.

*Includes: Breakfast
