Day 1:

Welcome to India!

Welcome to India! After clearing customs and immigration, you will be met and privately transferred to your hotel. Delhi, India’s vibrant capital, is a bustling metropolis where history meets modernity. From ancient monuments, such as the Red Fort and Qutub Minar, to contemporary skyscrapers and bustling markets, Delhi is steeped in history yet always changing.

Day 2:

Old and New Delhi

Old Delhi Market

Spend the day exploring Delhi. A carefully curated selection of experiences will give you insight into the many facets that make Delhi what it is. The tour starts with Humayun’s tomb, a spellbinding mausoleum and the first example of Mughal architecture in India. From here, you’ll arrive in Chandni Chowk, the heart of Old Delhi. Via rickshaw, cycle through the market, embracing the chaos and imagining life as it was in the Mughal era. Sample quintessential Delhi snacks at a local haveli before leaving Old Delhi behind and heading into New Delhi. Learn about how the British envisaged their new capital as you view the stark architecture shift. Finish your tour with a Gurudwara experience, a fun way to ignite another of your five senses in the city of Delhi.

Day 3:

Taj Mahal and Agra Fort

Taj Mahal

Board a first-class train, traveling through the countryside to Agra via one of India’s most popular modes of transit. Arrive in Agra, home of the Taj Mahal and the Agra Fort. The Taj Mahal is considered one of the seven modern wonders of the world and needs little introduction. Apart from its stunning design balance and perfect symmetry, the Taj is also noted for its elegant domes, intricately carved screens, and some of the best inlay work the world has ever seen. Your private expert guide will bring the monument to life, weaving together historical tales to transport you to the Mughal golden age.

Continue on to Agra Fort, also known as the Red Fort of Agra. The fort was constructed by the Mughal Emperor Akbar in the mid-16th century and later enhanced by his successors, including Shah Jahan, who built the Taj Mahal. The fort stands on the banks of the Yamuna River and offers panoramic views of the Taj Mahal from certain vantage points within its walls.

Transfer back to the train station and ride the rails back to Delhi for the night.

Day 4:

Into the Wild

Kanha National Park in the golden light of early morning.

Head South to Madhya Pradesh. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Raipur. Upon arrival in Raipur, it’s a four-hour drive to Kanha National Park. Located in what’s known as the Central India Tiger Landscape, Kanha is a renowned wildlife sanctuary and one of the country’s premier tiger reserves. Spread across a vast expanse, the park is characterized by lush forests, meadows, and gently rolling hills. It is celebrated for its significant population of Bengal tigers, as well as other wildlife species such as leopards, sloth bears, barasingha deer, and numerous bird species.

The next two days will fly by, filled with the exhilaration of the search for the Bengal tiger, learning about the area from your kind hosts and guides, and relaxing by the pool surrounded by the Sal forest.

Set amidst 11 acres of thick Sal forest and situated close to Mukki gate of Kanha National Park, Kanha Jungle Lodge was built with minimum interference to the natural environment of its setting and managed on eco-friendly principles. 18 spacious double–bed rooms and two independent deluxe cottages are available, surrounded by tall trees. Days 5-6:

Kanha National Park Safaris

Barasingha, the conservation success story of Kanha

Enjoy game drives and lodge activities Each day, rise with the sun and set off on safari in a 4×4 jeep with your expert naturalist guide. Safaris in India are all about the search, the dense jungles of India mean catching a glimpse of a Bengal tiger is a challenge, making a sighting all the more memorable. Keep a sharp eye out for other wildlife in the park including the conservation golden child, the Barasingha deer that was brought back from the verge of extinction, wild dogs, sloth bears, and more. Picnic breakfasts will be held in the field before heading back to the lodge.

During the heat of the afternoon, enjoy the amenities of your luxury camp. Spend some time in the pool, visit the local villages, take a cooking class, or simply relax.

As twilight approaches, head out for another safari. Twilight is one of the best times to look for tigers, and other wildlife, as the heat of the day dissipates and they start to move through the forest.

After dinner, you have the option of taking a night walk near the lodge to search for nocturnal fauna, stargaze with your guide, or enjoy the warmth of the outdoor fire pit.

Day 7:

Kanha to Pench

Sloth Bear

Journey to Pench National Park Take in one final morning safari before transferring to Pench, famous for being the inspiration behind Rudyard Kipling’s “the Jungle Book.” The Kanha-Pench corridor forms one of the most crucial tiger conservation units of the world, thanks to its continuous forest between the two parks. While located geographically closely, Pench boasts a very different landscape. The park’s mix of teak and bamboo forests, open grasslands, and the mighty Pench river provides a beautiful haven for wildlife. Beyond tigers, Pench is home to Leopard, Jungle Cat, Dhole (Wild Dog), Sloth Bear, Wild Boar, Mongoose, Gaur and the highest density of Herbivores of any Indian park.

Settle into your luxury tented camp and have the afternoon free. In the evening, head out on a nature walk. Pench is one of India’s more remote parks and this area allows you the unique opportunity to walk through the buffer zone of the park with no other lodges, tourists, or even villages nearby.

Days 8-9:

Pench National Park Safaris

Tiger and her cubs

Two full days of safari! Rise early to make the most of your time in the park. Each day you’ll arise before the sun and take off in the 4×4 jeep with your expert naturalist guide. A picnic breakfast will be served in the park before heading back to the lodge to beat the heat. Pench begs you to simply relax and enjoy the sound of the jungle but you can also choose to venture out for a nature walk, bike ride, or just a stroll through the local village with your naturalist guide.

An evening safari offers another chance to come face to face with the fauna of Pench.

If you want a truly unique experience, ask us about the Machan – a stilted starbed located in a farmer’s field where you can watch the stars and keep a keen eye out for whatever may choose to wander past. All proceeds go to the farmer as part of a local conservation project.

Day 10:

From Jungle to City

One last safari in Pench before transferring to the airport for your flight to Mumbai, formerly known as Bombay. Mumbai is one of India’s largest and most cosmopolitan cities, a stark contrast to the jungles of Pench and Kanha! Home to Bollywood, a stunning coastline, the historic Gateway of India, and the bustling markets of Colaba, Mumbai encapsulates a blend of colonial history, modern architecture, and a pulsating urban lifestyle. Transfer to your hotel and have the evening free.

Day 11:

Marvelous Mumbai

Full day tour of Mumbai. Starting off in the UNESCO Heritage District at the Gateway of India, wind your way by car, foot, and train to various iconic areas of Mumbai. Walk from Kala Ghjoda to Churchgate, learning about the precision of the dabbawalas before boarding a local train to Byculla for a traditional Mumbai lunch. Drive to the spice market, taking a stroll through this famous, and aromatic, market. You can purchase a variety of spices to take home or simply witness the fascinating process of dry roasting and grinding spices into custom masala mixes. End your tour at Kala Ghoda, the art district of Mumbai. Enjoy some free time in this area, perfect for wandering, shopping, or grabbing an afternoon coffee, before your driver takes you back to your hotel.

Optional: With a massive global fan base, Bollywood has become one of the most influential and recognizable film industries worldwide. Experience a taste of Bollywood as you groove to the beats of Bollywood music in a contemporary dance studio. Day 12:

The Blue City of Jodhpur

The Blue City and Mehrangarh Fort

Travel to Rajasthan, land of maharajas and medieval forts Board a flight to the Blue City of Jodhpur. Jodhpur is renowned for its magnificent Mehrangarh Fort, an imposing hilltop fortification offering stunning panoramic views of the city. The cityscape is dominated by this historic fort but within the city itself you’ll find bustling markets selling traditional textiles, handicrafts, and local cuisine. Jodhpur Discovery

Jump into Jodhpur’s ancient and modern life, starting at Mehrangarh Fort. This fort is one of the largest fortresses in India, situated at a height of 400 feet above the city of Jodhpur. The museum is one of the most comprehensive in the province of Rajasthan, a true gem for those who love art, architecture and history. Start your day off exploring this imposing structure before diving deep into the heart of Jodhpur to discover the lesser-known treasures of this enchanting city on foot. Learn about interesting legends from the past, catch a glimpse into the life of locals, meet and interact with the city’s residents, and wander through narrow alleyways dotted with indigo-colored houses. Lunch will be at a local home nestled within the old city walls.

Take a tuk-tuk to the Clock Tower area of Jodhpur and immerse yourself in the local handicraft scene. Your guide will help you navigate the market, where bustling trolleys adorned with glass bangles, incense, and fruit lead to shops brimming with antique fabrics, terracotta pottery, clothing, and jewelry. One of the shops we visit is a century old textile shop. The present owners are fifth generation and will speak to the fascinating history of textiles in this area as well as the creation process.

Day 14:

Into the Land of Leopards

Travel through the Rajasthani countryside to reach Bera. Amongst spellbinding, billion-year-old granite rock formations leopards roam wild and free, coexisting comfortably with the charismatic communities of this area. The region is dotted with rocky hills, scrubland, and agricultural fields, creating an ideal habitat for leopards. Travelers to Bera have the opportunity to witness these elusive big cats in their natural surroundings and learn about conservation and cohabitation efforts.

The City of Lakes

Udaipur, often referred to as the “Venice of the East,” is a picturesque city strewn with lakes and nestled amidst the Aravalli mountain range. The shimmering Lake Pichola, with its floating palace, adds an ethereal charm to the city. Udaipur is also known for its vibrant markets, traditional art, and exquisite handicrafts, making it a wonderful destination for travelers seeking a mix of history, culture, and natural beauty.

Drive to the hotel’s private pier and board your boat, chartering a course for the Taj Lake Palace. Your home for the next two nights is situated on an island in the midst of the lake, affording every room breathtaking views of the City Palace, Aravalli Hills, Machla Magra Hills, and Jag Mandir.

In the afternoon, embark on a walking tour of Udaipur and its living traditions.
