Day 1: Welcome to Africa!

Welcome to Zambia! Known as the ‘Warm Heart’ of Africa, Zambia is still under the radar on many safari agendas. Boasting some of the most remote, wild parks, an abundance of wildlife with no crowds and a diversity of experiences and lodging it is soon to be the top of everyone’s list. Known as the home of the walking safari Zambia is one of the only destinations where travelers can get out on foot for an up close and personal perspective on wildlife and really immerse themselves in the wilderness, with guides that are trained for anything.

Most international flights seamlessly connect to scheduled bush flights, meaning after you are escorted through the airport you are immediately off on safari to maximize your time in nature.

As you land at the airstrip you are met by your knowledgeable guide and begin your first game drive, en route to the lodge.

Lion Camp is a privately owned luxury lodge in one of the best safari locations in Zambia. It is built on the edge of an oxbow lagoon which attracts a wide variety of wildlife. Game viewing in and around camp is spectacular with lions, leopards, wild dogs, large herds of elephant and buffalo, the highest concentration of hippo in Africa and incredible bird viewing. Savannas, woodlands and the meandering Luangwa River form the backdrop to this amazing part of the South Luangwa.

Day 2: South Luangwa National Park

Wake up to an unobstructed view from your luxury tented suite at this intimate private camp and begin your first full day on safari.

Here you will be treated to a truly authentic safari experience in one of the most exclusive, remote and abundant game-viewing areas of Africa.

In the dry season, the game viewing here is unparalleled with sightings of lion, leopard, wild dog, large herds of elephant and buffalo, the unique Thornicroft’s giraffe, Cookson’s wildebeest, Crawshay’s zebra and a plethora incredible birds.

Day 3: Safari in South Luangwa

Embark on twice daily game drives with your expert guide, who will educate and enlighten you to the secrets of this vast wilderness as you travel in a custom open toped Land Rover that immerses you in your surroundings.

Relax by the pool back at your luxury tented camp, or have an ‘armchair’ safari on your private deck as wildlife freely makes its way past the lodge.

Day 4: Another day on Safari in South Luangwa

Today you can opt for an up close and personal perspective as you set off on foot with your expert ranger and an armed tracker for a walking safari.

Zambia is often referred to as the home of the walking safari, and this activity offers a totally fresh way to view wildlife. Learn to appreciate the minutia of the park and it’s complex ecosystem and stealthily approach game from a safe distance and wonder at their most intimate moments.

Day 5: Fly to Lower Zambezi National Park

Today you will transfer back to the lodge airstrip and catch your scheduled charter flight to your next safari location. Nothing says safari like touching down at a private airstrip in a remote wilderness.

Located opposite the famous Mana Pools Reserve in Zimbabwe, Lower Zambezi National Park ensures that both sides of the river are encompassed by one massive wildlife reserve.

The River’s edge itself is thick with riverine forest, including ebony and fig trees and further inland a vast floodplain is fringed with mopane forest and interspersed with huge acacias. A dramatic escarpment and distant hills form the backdrop of this expansive park.

The escarpment along the northern edge of the park acts as a natural barrier to most of the Park’s animal species, ensuring incredible game viewing on any safari here. Enormous herds of elephant, some up to 100 in one group are often seen at the river’s edge. ‘Island hopping’ buffalo and shy waterbuck are common. This park also hosts impressive populations predators like ion and leopard.

Elevated on a riverbank, overlooking the expansive Zambezi River in perpetual motion is Amanzi luxury safari camp, an intimate and enthralling Zambian establishment. The luxury safari lodge is carved into the landscape, with the persistent flow of the river a mesmerizing focal point. Here, wildlife is left to roam freely across the floodplains; elephants silhouetted against the shimmering sun pass regularly pass by, ignoring the grunts of hippo and shouts of the bird life as it meanders across the landscape.

Day 6: A day on Safari in the Lower Zambezi

Explore this magnificent wildlife haven with your knowledgeable safari guide through a range of activities during your stay.

Cruise through the varied terrain perched high up on a custom vehicle, built for the ultimate game viewing. Drive with a spotlight at night, discovering the secrets of nocturnal creatures as they come out after dark. Glide silently toward a huge elephant as it drinks at the banks of the river, looking up at this incredible creature from your canoe.

Drift along the river by boat, with a drink in hand and spot the ever changing wildlife it supports, watch a pod of hippos jostle in the shallows, or a generations of an elephant family enjoying the mud on the banks, the calm of being out on the Zambezi will fill your soul with the magic of the bush.

Day 7: Another day in Lower Zambezi

Today you may choose to forgo one of your game drives in favor of a walking safari. Only conducted by the highest trained guides and accompanied at all times by an armed spotter, encountering African wildlife in its natural habitat while of foot is an experience unique to this region.

Listen as guides explain how they track, piecing together the small clues left behind by large mammals. Gain an appreciation for the more hidden aspects of the bush and learn about the complex symbiotic relationships of the ecosystem.

Being so close to an animal on foot is an experience you will never forget.

Day 8: A final day on Safari

On your last on safari you can again choose your own game viewing adventure. Head back out on the river by canoe or flat bottomed safari boat, game drive at sunrise and sunset, explore on foot with your expert guide, try your hand at catch and release tiger fishing or simple sit back and enjoy the sights and sounds of your luxury tented camp.

Day 9: Farewell Africa

After an early morning game drive you depart for the airstrip to meet your waiting plane and return to Lusaka. Here you can catch your connecting flight home or onward to your next destination.

Should you have a long layover we are happy to arrange for some touring in the city or a day use room to freshen up before your flight.
