Hotel Grande Bretagne

Hotel Grande Bretagne is an Athens landmark hotel on Syntagma Square, open since 1874 and one of the city's most historically significant addresses: it served as the headquarters of the Third Reich during World War II, housed Winston Churchill during diplomatic negotiations, and hosted foreign dignitaries during the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. The hotel has seven restaurants and bars, including a rooftop restaurant awarded by Wine Spectator for its Mediterranean cuisine and Acropolis views, a Latin American restaurant and cigar lounge in the inner garden, a poolside grill, a winter garden serving afternoon tea and live piano music, and Alexander's Bar, voted Best Hotel Bar in the world by Forbes. The spa has both indoor and outdoor pools, and the hotel also has a gym and a wine cellar with 3,500 labels. Weekly museum tours of the hotel's antique and art collection are offered on request.
