Arrive in Tokyo! After a private transfer from the airport to your hotel, enjoy some free time to relax before diving into city exploration tomorrow. Park Hotel Tokyo is located on the 25th floor and up in the Shiodome Media Tower. Your anime journey continues at Shiro-Hige’s Cream Puff factory, where you can sample Totoro-themed cream puffs. After indulging in some of Japan’s most beloved treats, wander through Shinjuku Gyoen, one of Tokyo’s biggest and most popular parks. Originally an Imperial Garden, it was gifted to the people after World War II. Explore Shibuya, home to the world-famous Shibuya Scramble. Enjoy some free time to shop and wander around this vibrant part of the city.
Modern and Ancient Tokyo
Today is a day to explore both the new and old Tokyo. Start your day at the interactive digital art museum, TeamLab Planets, inviting you to stretch your imagination with the combination of science and art. After a stop at the Pokémon Center and Cafe, continue to Asakusa, part of Tokyo’s shitamachi (low city), showcasing narrow streets reminiscent of Edo period Tokyo. Visit Senso-Ji, a large Buddhist Temple from the 7th century, via Nakamise-dori, a pedestrian street lined with shops selling Japanese arts and crafts.
Goodbye Tokyo, Hello Hakone
Before leaving the big city, take a crash course in sumo, an ancient Japanese art. Learn about the rituals, basic techniques, and watch a sumo training session. Head into the countryside to Hakone, a tranquil onsen town renowned for its view of Mt Fuji. Visit the Open Air Museum and meet a local artisan to learn the age-old practice of making Japanese trick puzzle boxes.
Arrive at your ryokan in the evening, enjoy a soak in the onsen, change into your yukata, and indulge in a magnificent dinner.

Tucked away in the lush mountains of Hakone lies Hakone Ginyu. Explore Mt. Fuji and Hakone by foot, cable car, ropeway, and boat. Begin with the Hakone Checkpoint Museum, one of the 50 checkpoints built to protect Edo (Tokyo) during the samurai era. Walk a section of the Sugi-Namki, “the avenue of cedar trees,” a stone path from the 17th century, part of the old Tokkaido highway connecting Kyoto to Tokyo. Ride a cable car to the ropeway, offering over a volcanic valley. Enjoy the views from the top before descending on the ropeway and concluding your day with a boat trip on the idyllic Lake Ashi.
Bullet Train to Kyoto
After a relaxing morning, board the world-famous shinkansen (bullet train) bound for Kyoto. Kyoto served as Japan’s capital – political, spiritual, and cultural – from the 12th to the 19th centuries. While political power has moved to Tokyo, Kyoto has retained a firm grasp on Japanese culture and traditions and is renowned for its temples, festivals, and art.
Upon arrival, settle into the hotel, then delve into learning about samurai culture. You’ll also have the chance to wear the traditional dress of these warriors and learn some basic fighting techniques.

Explore Arashiyama, a beautiful part of Kyoto known for its traditional buildings, bamboo forests, and quiet trails. Walk through the serene bamboo forest on your way to visit Tenryu-ji Temple, built in 1339 and considered to be one of the most important Zen temples in Kyoto. After learning about Zen Buddhism at the temple – and perhaps even trying meditation — enjoy a traditional Shojin Ryori lunch.
Head back to your hotel and have the afternoon free.
Hiroshima
Board the bullet train to Hiroshima, a vibrant, modern city with a poignant history. Visit the Peace Memorial and Park, a heavy reminder of what happened and a beacon of hope for the future. Throughout the Peace Park are a number of touching memorials, including the Children’s Peace Monument, festooned with brightly colored strings of origami cranes, left by children from all over the world to express a desire for peace.
Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant where you can try Hiroshima’s specialty Okanomiyaki.

Take a short ferry ride the island of Miyajima. Visit the Great Torii and Itsukushima Shrine, known as the ‘floating shrine.’ This vermillion torii is unique for being built over water, seemingly floating in the sea during high tide.
The Seto Inland Sea is a beautiful landscape of water dotted with islands. Take a ropeway up Mt Misen for fantastic views, and encounter friendly, free-roaming deer. These deer are considered to be sacred messengers of the gods. Return to Hiroshima in the afternoon.
Himeji Castle and Osaka
Travel by bullet train to Himeji Castle, one of the most spectacular castles in Japan and a World Heritage site. Explore the ‘white heron’ castle, which features a labyrinth-like approach along walled paths and through multiple gates with the purpose to slow down and expose attacking forces.
After exploring this national treasure, continue to Osaka, where you’ll have the chance to try your hand at taiko drumming. Learn the skills behind playing the instrument from a master drummer and have fun making some big noise! After working up your appetite with drumming, head out with your guide for dinner in Osaka, known as the nation’s kitchen and a top spot for street food.
