Arrive to Cape Town, a city famous for its colorful markets, historic sites, vibrant waterfront, dramatic landscapes, and world-class dining. Your English-speaking private guide will be waiting to escort your family through the airport and take you to your boutique hotel.
Scenic and beautiful, Cape Town offers something for every family: rugged mountains, lush gardens, and a range of vibrant markets, shops, restaurants and activities. Your boutique hotel in the City Bowl, a scenic area ringed by mountains, is the perfect base for your family’s time exploring this iconic metropolis.
Set on a cobbled lane in Cape Town’s Gardens suburb, More Quarters comprises a collection of converted heritage townhouses with 27 guest rooms. The property features a breakfast room, swimming pool, in-room spa service, sitting room with fireplace, and comfortable outdoor spaces with sun loungers overlooking the surrounding mountains.
*Includes: Breakfast
Search for penguins and animals as you leave the city behind and head out for a day of exploration with your private guide. Visit the seals in the quaint fishing village of Kalk Bay. Stop for some treats at a local bakery, enjoy a hot chocolate, and listen to a few of the local shark stories or try your hand at fishing.
Heading back out away from town, discover a local beach that is home to penguins. Dip your feet in the sea water and try your hand at stand-up paddle boarding or kayaking to get an up-close look at these fascinating little creatures.
From there, continue on to Cape Point to seek out the Cape 5: ostriches, baboons, mountain zebra, bontebok, and tortoises. Wander along hiking trails through indigenous fynbos, past hidden coves and rocky beaches. Learn about the shipwrecks on this coastline, keeping an eye out for lost treasure, then head up the funicular or take a gentle hike to the Cape Point Lighthouse, for an incredible panoramic view over the ocean. Take the scenic return drive back to the city, stopping along the way at a local farm village for homemade ice cream.
See all of Cape Town at your feet from the top of Table Mountain. Take a scenic cable car ride to the top, as the vistas of the city and surrounding ocean are slowly revealed. At the top, explore the mountain top and look for dassie (local rock rabbits), then visit a cafe for a well-earned hot chocolate and delicious local baked goods.
Returning to sea level, you have the option to hop on bikes and cycle along the Sea Point Promenade. Explore the coast, letting the kids lead the way with their own interactive maps. Stop at art installations en route, and hear the story of Nelson Mandela while gazing out toward Robben Island, where he spent so many years imprisoned. Staying safe and off road, head into Green Point Park for a fun look at the unique Cape flora and fauna before lunch.
After lunch, explore the city’s uplifting urban art projects, District Six and interactive sites like the Apartheid Benches, which bring to life the history which has shaped South Africa. This is terrific for teens and older children. Families with younger kids can head to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens for an afternoon of exploration within the estate. Follow a treasure map along tree-top canopy walkways and prehistoric cycad gardens. Jump over steppingstones, climb Van Riebeek’s historic hedge, and barrel down lawns in search of Claud the Clawless Otter.
End the day at the beach with a private picnic, and sip a sundowner with your feet in the sand while the kids play beach games with their energetic guide.
Enjoy the city at your own pace with your private guide. There are endless possibilities around Cape Town: enjoy a kid-friendly day in the Cape Winelands, checking out the march of the ducks or interacting with eagles, or discover the vibrant markets and ice cream on the waterfront, or adventure out on a sidecar motorcycle adventure. Whatever your interests and the age of your family, we will help you plan the ideal day.
Fly to Johannesburg and spend the afternoon touring with a passionate local guide or relaxing at your hotel’s pool.
Joburg combines a modern, metropolitan sophistication with historic townships, creating an ambience that has given life to some of South Africa’s greatest icons and creative minds. The result is a city culture that’s funky, a little off-beat, and totally captivating.
Set within two acres in Johannesburg’s residential suburb of Melrose, The Peech is a boutique hotel with 32 well-appointed guest rooms spread around the property’s verdant gardens. The location feels both private and central, located near the city's main shopping hubs and adjacent to the boutiques, cafés and parks of Melrose. The hotel offers two swimming pools, comfortable outdoor seating areas, and a bistro featuring locally sourced, sustainable and organic ingredients.
Feel the excitement build as you head to a private terminal for your one-hour safari flight to the bush. Madikwe is a malaria-free private reserve that is home to 66 different mammal species and 300 types of birds. Rimmed by mountain peaks, the reserve features open grasslands, shaded woods, rocky outcrops, and sweeping stretches of red sand. This private reserve is an ideal place for families who want to experience a Big 5 safari adventure off the beaten path. From the plane, hop right into your open safari vehicle and look for wildlife as you make your way to the lodge.
Madikwe’s wooded hills give way to savannah and Kalahari plains, roamed by all of the Big Five and countless other mammals. Look up and you will see hundreds of resident and migrant birds gracing its skies. Coupled with the reserve being malaria-free, this all makes for a special place to explore. While the luxury of Madikwe Safari Lodge lies in having direct access to some of South Africa’s best Big Five safari experiences, it is also the pleasure of coming back to thoughtful comforts, warm hospitality, and excellent meals after exploring the bush that defines a stay here. The Madikwe brand of luxury comes standard, and what sets each of its retreats apart is its unique feel – appealing to different travelers.
