This morning after breakfast and check out, you will be transferred to Porto overlooking the Douro River and known for it’s historic city center. The surrounding area is full of wine lodges, charming villages and historic sites – the perfect base for exploring Northern Portugal. After checking in to your historic boutique hotel, you’ll set out on an epicurean adventure led by a local chef and accompanied by a food and wine expert. You will uncover the secrets of Porto’s delicacies and charming locals. This isn’t just a tasting tour, it’s an opportunity to truly connect with the food, the people, and the culture.

Porto was made for exploring on foot and this afternoon, you’ll do just that, taking in the city’s historic center with its network of alleys, tile-fronted churches, and varied monuments. With your private guide, visit some of the city’s key historic sites: the Romanesque cathedral, which dates back to the 12th century; former stock exchange, the Palácio da Bolsa; and the beautiful São Bento railway station, whose walls tell the history of Portugal through more than 20,000 tiles. Explore the neighborhood of Praça da Ribeira with its winding, cobbled streets; walk down Porto’s main thoroughfare, the architecturally impressive Avenida dos Aliados; and visit the historic Livraria Lello bookstore, said to have inspired JK Rowling!

This morning, meet your expert guide in the hotel lobby to explore the wine region of the Douro Valley on this immersive excursion. Feast your senses on the Douro’s many magnificent wineries, restaurants, and viewpoints. You’ll visit several vineyards and be introduced to some of the region’s best varietals. Learn about the history of the wine heritage with the help of your guide and local winemakers. Of course, no trip to the Douro Valley would be complete without tasting a few world-class wines and a traditional Portuguese lunch.

Experience the day like a local and go for an e-bike ride along the Douro river until you reach the ocean. From there follow towards north while feeling the cool Atlantic Ocean breeze to the neighboring coastal city of Matosinhos. Throughout the way, your guide will share the history of the area. You will have the chance to explore some spots like “Cantareira” fishing community, the “Passeio Alegre” garden, or Matosinhos beach and “Parque da Cidade do Porto” (Porto’s city Park). Lunch is served at one of the typical fish restaurants in Matosinhos, where only the freshest fish is provided!
